THE EXPERIENCE
-
The Amsterdam Tulip Trail is ideal for art lovers, history buffs, and garden, horticulture, and botany enthusiasts, as well as travelers who enjoy curiosity-driven exploration in a small-group setting. It’s especially well suited to those who value thoughtful pacing, engaging conversation, and the opportunity to form meaningful connections along the way.
-
The Amsterdam Tulip Trail is hosted by Heather Bolen, founder of Travel & Culture Salon, who is present throughout the trip to provide context, guidance, and thoughtful curation. The hosting style is relaxed and conversational, blending structured experiences with flexibility rather than rigid, hour-by-hour touring.
-
The Amsterdam Tulip Trail is designed as a small-group experience, with 5–12 travelers, creating space for meaningful connection and thoughtful exploration.
-
Most of our travelers are adults, but we welcome travelers ages 14-18 as long as they are accompanied by a legal guardian.
-
This week-long trip includes a variety of activities such as walking tours, garden and farm visits, museum explorations, and a canal cruise, covering diverse terrain and busy city areas. While the pace is comfortable and Amsterdam is mostly flat, some streets and bridges may pose challenges for those with mobility concerns. Guests should be able to walk several hours a day with breaks. The canal cruise boats are not fully wheelchair accessible; however, guests who use folding wheelchairs and can walk with assistance to sit on the boat’s couch may be accommodated.
If you have any specific accessibility needs or questions, please notify us at the time of booking by contacting hello@travelandculturesalon.com.
Early communication allows us to provide personalized guidance and help determine if this trip is a good fit for you.
-
Each day includes a balance of guided experiences and independent time, allowing you to explore on your own, revisit favorite spots, or simply enjoy the city at your own pace.
LOGISTICS & ACCOMMODATIONS
-
The Amsterdam Tulip Trail includes accommodations at Park Plaza Vondelpark Amsterdam, selected for its comfort, modern rooms, and quiet residential setting near Vondelpark, with easy access to museums, cafés, and public transportation. Additional arrival and stay details will be shared closer to departure.
-
We’re happy to share dietary needs with our partners when possible. Please note that while accommodations cannot be guaranteed in all situations, we do our best to support common dietary restrictions when informed in advance.
For gluten-related needs: many destinations can offer gluten-free meal options, but we cannot promise there will be no cross-contamination. If you are traveling with Celiac disease, you are welcome to join our trips, but you should plan to self-manage your dietary needs, as full accommodation cannot be assured.
-
The Amsterdam Tulip Trail includes daily breakfasts and all lunches, a welcome dinner and farewell dinner, a wine reception on one evening, and drinks and light hors d’oeuvres during a canal cruise. Any additional meals are left open to allow for independent exploration.
-
Most group activities include private chauffeur transportation. One full day is dedicated to exploring the city on foot, which may involve extended periods of walking typical of urban sightseeing. On this day, public transportation may also be used as needed.
Guests will also walk to the canal cruise departure point and to and from sites on the museum day. Walking distances and daily pacing are outlined in advance so guests can plan accordingly.
-
PASSPORT
You’ll need a valid passport to travel to the Netherlands. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure dateand have been issued within the last 10 years.
We recommend having six months of validity remaining as a precaution, as airline policies may vary.
ETIAS
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is a forthcoming travel authorization required for visa-exempt travelers entering many European countries, including the Netherlands. It is not a visa; it is a brief online pre-travel registration.
At this time, ETIAS is not required for travel to the Netherlands. The program is currently slated to begin after September 2026. Should this requirement take effect in the future, we’ll share guidance well in advance. More information is available HERE.
-
Yes. Travel & Culture Salon requires all travelers to carry travel insurance. Coverage must meet our requirements, including protection for trip cancellation, interruption, and medical needs. We can provide a quote through our travel insurance partner, or you may purchase a policy independently. Full details are available [here].
-
Final trip details, including meeting information and logistics, will be shared closer to departure once all arrangements are confirmed. You’ll receive this information well in advance of travel.
-
Before the trip, we’ll ask you to complete a brief traveler form with essential details, including passport information, travel insurance, dietary restrictions, and an emergency contact, to help ensure a smooth and well-coordinated experience for everyone.
-
April in the Netherlands can be mild but changeable. We recommend comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing, a light rain jacket, umbrella, and attire suitable for museums, gardens, and city walking. A more detailed packing overview will be shared before departure.
-
Tipping in the Netherlands is generally modest and discretionary. For group activities included in the Amsterdam Tulip Trail, gratuities are already included in the price of the trip, so no additional tipping is expected.
For personal expenses on your own time:
In cafés and bars, it’s common to simply round up the bill or leave small change.
In restaurants, a tip of around 5–10% is appreciated for good service, though service charges are typically included.
We’ll provide gentle guidance as needed during the trip.
CANCELLATIONS & CHANGES
-
At Travel & Culture Salon, our hosted trips are planned in close coordination with local guides, venues, and operators, all of whom have limited availability. Once your place on a trip is confirmed, we commit to securing specific dates, times, and group reservations on your behalf.
For this reason, all payments are non-refundable. Travel & Culture Salon requires all travelers to carry travel insurance, which helps protect your investment in the event of unexpected changes that prevent you from traveling.
